SÁMIS

At the northernmost edge of Europe, the Sami people strive to sustain their ancestral culture amid the challenges of climate change and cultural erosion.

This series of photographs, together with the 52-minute documentary SÁMIS, forms a diptych tale where human stories and natural wonders are intricately interwoven.

Built on the foundations of my Savoir-Faire and Eikasia projects, this work is an homage to the Sami people, their culture and their land, spotlighting the determination of a new generation to preserve and carry forward their cultural heritage.

We discover the profound symbiosis between the Sámi and their natural environment. We’ll witness fishing on frozen lakes, the precise practice of duodji, and the constant interaction with the reindeer that symbolise their way of life.

This film will also take us on a rediscovery of traditional Sámi cuisine, as well as the unique expression of their spirituality through their joik, an ancestral chant imbued with emotion.

SÁMIS is an intimate journey, a vibrant tribute to Sámi culture.
